American Apparels Double Edged Sword

American Apparel has recently fallen foul of the current ASA advertising laws due to their “highly sexualised images” of women. Many people have claimed that the images are verging on the pornographic nature due to the amateur quality of the pictures,  but AA has hit back saying that the images are of “real, non-airbrushed, everyday people”.

We wonder how this is any different from images by artists such as Richard Avedon and Helmut Newton?  This is also relevant to leading magazines such as LOVE and Vogue, which regularly feature half naked women but these images are passed because they are (WAIT for this!) Photoshopped and done in a “professional” environment (RIGHT!). This is an ongoing argument that will always be disputed.
